Occasional Connection They participate in Jewish community from time to time—maybe attending an event, program, holiday celebration, volunteer experience, or other activity—but there isn’t a Jewish community they participate in regularly.

Regular Participation They regularly participate in a Jewish community, group, or organization. Their connection may be centered around something they regularly do—like attending services, going to a recurring program, participating in a group, or volunteering.

Community as Part of Life They have an ongoing relationship with a Jewish community that goes beyond the particular things they attend or do. They may talk about the people there as “my community,” have relationships that extend beyond a particular program, or see the community as a place where they belong.

A person can participate regularly without necessarily experiencing that community as an ongoing part of their life.

Participant They mostly take part in Jewish experiences that other people create. They might attend programs, services, gatherings, groups, or participate through their family.

Supporter They help make Jewish life happen for other people in some way. They might volunteer, donate, invite people to Jewish experiences, host gatherings, or help with programs or groups. They don't need to do all of these things.

Leader & Community Builder Helping create or sustain Jewish life for others is an ongoing role they play. They might lead a group, serve on a board or committee, regularly organize or host experiences, mentor others, or take responsibility for strengthening a community. The role can be formal or informal.
