Frequently Asked Questions

When you arrive on-site, ring the bell or buzzer and staff will let you in. Let them know that you are volunteering with the Jewish Connection Network, and they will direct you where to go (including signing in, if needed). The project captain for this opportunity will be on-site to introduce themselves and the other volunteers at the project, too.  Project captains will be wearing a Jewish Connection Network t-shirt. You will receive specific instructions (when to arrive, address, parking information) in your confirmation e-mail prior to the opportunity.

Volunteer opportunities vary in length based on a few factors but expect to be on–site for between 1-3 hours. Our partners ask that you arrive between 15-30 minutes prior to the project’s start time to park, check-in, meet with other volunteers and meet with the day-of staff for a brief orientation. You will then prepare for meal service, serve a meal, and clean up/break down the kitchen/dining room areas.

Free street parking or parking lots are available in the immediate area surrounding our nonprofit partners. More details about parking (including suggested streets and addresses for garages) will be provided in your confirmation e-mail.

Please wear clothing that you do not mind getting dirty and close-toed shoes (aprons and gloves will be provided if needed). Make sure hair is tucked away/out of your face prior to volunteering. Bring or wear layers as the kitchens sometimes run warmer compared to other parts of the building. Please bring a photo ID as you may be required to sign in when you arrive to volunteer.

We would never promote a volunteer opportunity with significant safety risks! Our staff have visited these organizations many times with no issues, and all of our partners have security on-site. Many of our partners are in residential neighborhoods, so you may see community members and neighbors when you arrive or depart. Our project captains are happy to walk you to and from your car if you prefer. If you have additional questions about safety, please contact Kate at kkirby@thejewishnetwork.org
