About the Film:
Deaf President Now! is a compelling documentary that chronicles the historic 1988 student protests at Gallaudet University, the world’s premier institution for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students. When the university’s board appointed a hearing president over two qualified Deaf candidates, students mobilized in an eight-day protest demanding authentic representation. Their efforts culminated in the appointment of Dr. I. King Jordan as Gallaudet’s first Deaf president, marking a significant milestone in civil rights and influencing the eventual passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
