Meet the Rosenberg Family: PJ Library’s Mishpacha of the Month!

Meet Gabriella and Evan Rosenberg, and their children, Luna, age 8, and Scarlett, age 4.

Gabby and Evan both grew up in Jewish households- Gabby was born in Pikesville and moved to Cockeysville with her parents when she was in Lower School, and Evan was born and raised in Silver Spring. Both attended Jewish day schools, Evan went to Charles E. Smith Day School and Gabby went to Beth Tfiloh, where both of their girls are currently enrolled – Luna in the 2nd grade and Scarlett in the 4s.

Gabby previously worked as a Subpoena Manager at Morgan Stanley and now serves as an Office Manager for a financial advisor. Evan is the Director of Regulatory Compliance at Morgan Stanley and co runs an online pen and stationery review business with his dad.

Gabby, Evan, Luna, and Scarlett recently attended the PJ Library/PJ Our Way Martin Luther King Jr. Day program that was held in January at the Owings Mills JCC in partnership with the Combat Antisemitism Movement. Together, they enjoyed the program, which included a thoughtful discussion about equality, diversity, and Jewish values; a Sesame Street video about Dr. King Jr.; and a self-portrait craft project aimed at reinforcing the message that we are all different on the outside but share the same hopes and dreams on the inside.

When asked how PJ Library has impacted their lives, Evan said, “PJ Library books offer a flavor of Yiddishkeit at bedtime through osmosis… new PJ Library books become our next favorite book for bedtime, and those books include representation of Jewish images which become incorporated into our lives, permeating Jewish issues and messages into our days where we would otherwise not have them there…”

Luna and Scarlett love reading PJ Library and PJ Our Way books. One of their family’s favorite PJ Library books is, “I Can Help,” by David Costello because there are so many elements of it – it’s simple to read and follow along during bedtime, there are single sentences in repetition which makes it easy for kids to read, and it includes a great message about truly being there for others in need.

Other favorites of the Rosenberg family include…

Favorite Family Movie: Princess Bride

Favorite Board Game: Mouse Trap

Favorite Jewish Holiday Tradition: On one night of Hanukkah, instead of receiving gifts, Luna and Scarlett are each given $18 to donate to the charity of their choice

Favorite Baltimore Place: Oregon Ridge playground – a great place to go and play!

We are looking forward to continuing to engage with Gabby and Evan (who are excited to help co-create meaningful experiences for Jewish families in the near future), and we are eager to watch Luna and Scarlett continue to grow as readers — transitioning from PJ Library to PJ Our Way in the years ahead. Thank you, Gabby, Evan, Luna, and Scarlett for being part of our PJ Library family… we are so grateful for you!
