Volunteer experiences in Baltimore have the power to bring people together, build lasting relationships and strengthen our community. As our new Senior Associate of Volunteer Experiences, Sammy Levitt is excited to help people discover meaningful ways to get involved. Get to know Sammy, learn what inspired her to join The Network and hear what she’s looking forward to as she begins connecting volunteers across Jewish Baltimore.
I recently made the move from the Boston area to Baltimore for a new adventure. I was fortunate to find this opportunity with The Network shortly after arriving, and it has made the transition even more meaningful. Starting over in a new city can be both exciting and a little intimidating, but everyone I’ve met has been incredibly welcoming. I’m looking forward to continuing to explore Baltimore and putting down roots here.
Family and friendships are at the center of my life. I’m the oldest of four siblings and am incredibly close with my parents, stepparents and grandparents. They have always been my biggest supporters and have shaped who I am today. Outside of work, you’ll usually find me trying a new restaurant, spending time outdoors, cheering on Boston sports teams or planning my next trip.
I’ve always been drawn to teamwork and bringing people together around a shared purpose. Growing up playing team sports and spending summers at Camp Young Judaea taught me the value of community, belonging and showing up for one another. The opportunity to help create meaningful volunteer experiences while building community felt like the perfect combination of my professional background and my personal values. From my very first conversations with the team, I could tell The Network is a place where relationships truly matter.
What excites me most is helping people find opportunities that match their interests and strengths while creating connections that last beyond a single volunteer experience. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch someone discover a community where they feel welcomed, included and excited to keep coming back.
I’ve loved how welcoming Baltimore has been. Every neighborhood has its own personality, the food scene has been incredible and there’s such a strong sense of community here. I’m still exploring, so I’m always looking for recommendations, especially for restaurants, coffee shops and places to get outside!
Let’s grab a coffee and chat! You don’t need a lot of experience or a huge amount of free time to make a difference. Start with something that genuinely interests you, stay curious and don’t be afraid to meet new people. You never know what connections you’ll make or how meaningful the experience might become.
I’ll always miss being close to my family and friends and a perfect New England fall. But I’m excited to continue exploring Baltimore, getting to know the community and discovering all the local spots that make the city feel like home.
