Meet Carol Goldstein

Tell us a little about yourself

I am a retired hospice nurse who moved to Towson after my husband, David, passed away. This has enabled me to be closer to my children and grandchildren, which has been a source of incredible joy! I was also fortunate enough to join Bolton Street Synagogue which afforded me a sense of instant community and where I recently became an Adult Bat Mitzvah, a milestone in my life.

How did you first get connected with The Network?

I first began doing things with The Network when I attended a series of lectures [led by the Senior Community Shlicha, in partnership with the Myerberg Center] about Israel’s response to October 7th through art and poetry, which was incredibly powerful.

Is there a particular event, volunteer opportunity, or moment that stands out to you?

There were evenings in partnership with Bolton Street where we made casseroles for homeless shelters and I met some new folks and got to do some interesting learning about Israel, and let’s not forget the amazing packing parties where we packed hundreds packages of hats and scarves, all handmade, along with personal care items which are distributed throughout the city. I especially enjoy The Network Book Club [with the Jewish Library of Baltimore] discussions, where we get to share a wide variety of opinions on our most recent selection.

What keeps you coming back to Network events and experiences?

What keeps me coming back, first and foremost, is the welcoming community of people who very quickly make you feel at home and knowing I am contributing to something vital in the greater Baltimore community, spreading Tikkun Olam to others.
